Default Fuel gauge needle drops off when accereraiting

My fuel gauge drops off when I acceleraite but returns after i roll off a bit. At highway speed i roll on and needle moves to the empty side and then returns. I know not to trust the gauge but this is bothering me. Any help here?

If the needle swings pretty fast, then your gauge has lost it's dampening effect. A new gauge is in order!
Had to replace mine this year.
