Default Axtel cylinders vs bored oem cylinders for 107 build???

Hey everyone,

I am trying to get my ideas together for a 107 build for my fatbob. I am between going with a bored set of oem jugs and axtel cylinders already bored to 107". I was wondering if anyone had any preferences or suggestions? We have not quite selected the cam just yet but we are looking at a t man or andrews cams. I know the headwork will be done by big boyz porting. The only two major decisions hardware wise is cylinders/cams. Thanks.

Personally, if I were turning a 96" into a 107", I'd bore stockers. Spend the extra $$$ someplace else on the build.

I agree. Axtells are a nice piece but kinda overkill IMO.

I've heard both arguments and I am no expert on this. Some say no problems with the bore that there's never any problems. Others say the cylinder walls get too thin and the cylinders walls can distort very slightly - enough to reduce compression over time, but not enough to have oil issues. Both sides, based on my lack of expert knowledge, make good arguments. If I had to do it again, I would go for the Axtell. It might be overkill, but it would be bullet proof.

Look at S&S 106 BB kit for 07-up bikes while you are at it.

Bored stockers are A-OK @ about 50% $$'s of the Axtel's.

I think bored out stock one are fine. Atleast on this forums it seems like that is what a majority of people are using especially the hq ones. I went with the axtell 107 kit and it is very nice and the quality is great. Yes it is more expensive so weigh that into your build. Im not a wrench and dont pretend to be. I found an indy I liked and talked with them, had them do some minor work to see there work and like it. Asked the mechanic what he likes and he said axtell, but bear in mind orginally I was talking about an 117 kit. When that got squashed I still decided to stay with axtell for the 107. Thats my 2
