Sealing Mufflers to Header Pipes

Sealing Mufflers to Header Pipes
I've had a couple of sets of aftermarket slip-ons and neither are made the same as the stock HD mufflers at the muffler to head pipe connection. The slot that is cut into the stock ones are jogged as to prevent a straight path for air to enter or escape the joint. I tried the HD clamps, V&H clamps, Kerker clamps, none completly do the trick and I'm thinking it's due to the way the slot is cut at front of the slip-ons.
Anyhow, Any suggestions for a product that would work well on this joint to completly seal it? I once heard of using high temp silicone sealer, anyone ever use it? any other suggestions?
thanks, Ron

RE: Sealing Mufflers to Header Pipes
Use the red high temp silicon sealer on the junction and it won't leak one bit. Let it dry well (overnight) before starting the bike and the problem is solved. Mufflers will still slip right off.
I live by this stuff on Brit bikes with very leaky header to teardrop junction and my HD's.

When I put different mufflers on the Road King Custom I used to have I just wrapped the end of the exhaust pipe with some muffler tape and it sealed them. Took them off when I got the FLHTCI and put them on it and wrapped the end of those pipes too. No leaks.

Use Ultra Copper High Temp Exhaust sealant. It comes in a tube, and you get it at any auto parts store for about $5.
Just coat the inside of the muffler flange before sliding it onto the headpipe. Tighten down the clamp as much as possible. And let it sit overnight to dry.
No leaks, easy removal, and that is what this product is made for.

This stuff works great also, got it from the auto parts store.
It cures with heat.
