Default stripped thread on oil plug

has anyone ever stripped the thread on the oil plug..? I was changing my oil when I replaced the oil plug it got tight then it stripped..! I managed to turn it around again til it felt "snug" and it isn't leaking but I know it isn't right. Is there a kit or does anyone have some advise on how best I should fix this..? Thanks

Sure you didn't just rip an "O" ring?

I wished I did. No I can turn the bolt (plug) without too much effort past the point where it starts to get tight. It feels like it is stripped. I really didn't torque it that hard either I think... Any other ideas...?
Thanks

If you did strip it, the best fix is Keensert

It will be the easiest and best way to fix it, and keep it from leaking.

I have never used a keensert, look at it closely and how it installs before you buy it, look up the plug hole with a mirror and see if you can see anything that may restrict you, this may prevent you from tapping very deep. A helicoil thread insert or a pipe plug may be your best option.

ok thanks kingofcubes and kstewart422 for your help. I still can not believe I used that much force I really didn't think I cranked any harder than any other time I have changed my oil..? Ya"ll need to be careful doing this too. Thanks again.

Shy of removal ,and weld/drill/tap, we have used an oversize, self-tapper that should be available from your local auto parts store. They are available in various oversizes as well.
