SE 103 or aftermarket cams/reworked heads
#21
I listend to GMR...and a few other great people. "Going from a 103 that is done to a 107 is not going to gain you much. Port the heads and keep the 103 kit. We sell both and I would not tell anyone that you are going to have big gains from 103 to 107. Starting from ground zero sure go with the 107 kit.
As for power you can put a mild 103 together on a budget and have 100 hp and 110 tq without breaking the bank. Sure you will never win a dyno shoot out. But at some point there has to be a cut off point. Riding a bagger with 110 ftlbs of tq is fun. IS 130 better??? HA HA we all know that it is ...
The milds builds are easy on the wallet and provide great bang for the buck".
I finished a mild 103 build on a budget, ended up with 98 hp/112 tq if I could have afforded it, and or started from ground zero, who knows what may have happened. GOOD ADVICE GMR THANKS! I am happy...for now anyway.
After being hit by a truck in August I'm recovering well, the bike is still in the hospital. Lets see what happens with some of the settlement $$ I think I may just step up 120/120, that way I can get out of the way of fools that lose control of their 4 wheeled cages.

To resurrect a two month old thread
It looks like people got off of the original point of the question, which is also something I'm interested in.
Say Budget just enough for getting the SE103 kit installed (starting from a 96). This doesn't void the warranty or anything.
Now how about taking that same amount of money and put it in a cam and...
whatever else that $1200 ish gets you.

Last Feb I just did cams and new lifters only.. dealer had a winter special for cams, $725 with dyno, plus I had new lifters for $100 more....$825 total, installed for all and tuned...
Won't stay close with the big boys. but good enough for grandma and me..
