SE 103 or aftermarket cams/reworked heads
#11
I have to correct myself here.....I'm now on my 3rd 103" build in this bike. I made some changes this week, and picked it up from tuner today. I currently have Baisley Heads, SE 103" Flat Tops, Bored Stock Jugs, T-Man 590 cams, SE Heavy Breather, Fat Cat, tuned with a PCIII. Makes 107.35/107.78 (SAE).
I put a Woods 6 in my '07 WG when it was 96", then went to 103",SE FT's, kept the Woods 6, and street ported the heads. This winter I will be doing the Hillside 107" with their Wiseco pistons and Hillside Stage II heads, keeping the Woods. That will probably be enough to bust the crank and then I can do it all again and more. This is a disease.
What the heck, removing the tank, ripping off the top end of the motor is a great chance to do some serious cleaning while the heads and jugs are off at the shop.

In addition to Head Quarters, check out Dan Vance Race machine. He does excellent head porting. He has the raised port technology dialed in. I highly recommend him. I'm using HQ-0039G cams and Dan Vance heads. I'm very satisfied with the power and gas milage that I have now. I haven't had my motor dynoed but I will tell you this, I don't need to downshift out of overdrive in order to pass someone on the interstate.

Thanks to all of you who replied. Help is always awesome on this site, and I am always greatful. I will do some research over the fall, and try to do it this winter. There is a HD dealer in Kingston, Ontario(2.5 hours from me) who is a Head Quarters dealer. I hear nothing but awesome results with their products. We shall see....
Thanks again....
Thanks again....

Going from a 103 that is done to a 107 is not going to gain you much. Port the heads and keep the 103 kit. We sell both and I would not tell anyone that you are going to have big gains from 103 to 107. Starting from ground zero sure go with the 107 kit.
As for power you can put a mild 103 together on a budget and have 100 hp and 110 tq without breaking the bank. Sure you will never win a dyno shoot out. But at some point there has to be a cut off point. Riding a bagger with 110 ftlbs of tq is fun. IS 130 better??? HA HA we all know that it is ...
The milds builds are easy on the wallet and provide great bang for the buck.

It looks like people got off of the original point of the question, which is also something I'm interested in.
Say Budget just enough for getting the SE103 kit installed (starting from a 96). This doesn't void the warranty or anything.
Now how about taking that same amount of money and put it in a cam and...
whatever else that $1200 ish gets you.

Just wanted to reply to your question: I did go with the Head Quarters HQ 500 cams, and am quite happy. On a 2008 Street Glide, SE Pro Tuner, Stock head pipes, Bassani Megaphone slip-ons, SE stage 1 intake/filter the bike made 83 hp/95 tq. I know this is not earth shattering, but I did not break the bank, the dyno alone ran me $500.00. So for about $1400-$1500, I am very happy. Now am considering a 2-1 pipe for next year. Can't afford a 103" as nice as it would be. Just not in the cards, atleast for now.

I listend to GMR...and a few other great people. "Going from a 103 that is done to a 107 is not going to gain you much. Port the heads and keep the 103 kit. I finished a mild 103 build on a budget, ended up with 98 hp/112 tq if I could have afforded it, and or started from ground zero, who knows what may have happened. GOOD ADVICE GMR THANKS! I am happy...for now anyway.
After being hit by a truck in August I'm recovering well, the bike is still in the hospital. Lets see what happens with some of the settlement $$ I think I may just step up 120/120, that way I can get out of the way of fools that lose control of their 4 wheeled cages.
