Best exhaust to use on a Heritage???
I have a new Heritage with Fuel Injection. I am wanting to add exhaust on to it. I checked with the dealer, and they asked me a rediculous pice of approx $750.00 for a set of Screamin Eagle slip on and stage 1 upgrade. I figure for that kind of money I can buy a full set of exhaust that are probably better that slip ons. I want a nice deep rumble, but not so loud that it gives you a headache on a long ride. What would you all recommend?

RE: Best exhaust to use on a Heritage???
I've got a fuel injected 2005 Heritage and ponied up for the HD stage 1 air kit and SE slip-ons. I now have the rumble without the ear-bleeding loudness you get with some of the straight pipes...
However, with the slip-ons, the front pipe ends right below me. This gets loud when I'm running at higher throttle setting such as down the interstate. Although I love the way my bike sounds, I wish I had pipes which terminate at the back of the bike to keep the noise behind me. Just a thought.

If you change the exhaust with a louder, high flow exhaust, you are releasing the back pressure on the cylinders which will kill the off idle, low end torque. It's important that anytime you modify the intake or exhaust on your engine that a readjustment of the air/fuel mixture will need to occur. $750 for stage one mufflers, intake, and ecm flash is not unreasonable. You coule easly spend that amount on an exhaust system alone. That said, either leave it stock or do the complete package. You won't be happy just doing exhaust as it will effect the driveability of the bike. I personally run my Harley just off idle when cruising and take advantage of the torque.
