Default Why is my bike spitting fire!?

Hey Everyone,
I have a 2003 1200 Sposter sport. When I bought the bike it came with Vance&Hines straight shots, the previous owner had the carb adjusted and put in a high performance air filter. Never had any problems with the bike running to rich or stallin out. Recently the weather here has been cold and rainy. When i start my bike up all is well but when i begin to ride i start back firing, sounds like large guns shots. When my brother was riding behind me today he noticed flames coming out fo the exhausts when the "gun shots" took place. I had an idea that i might just be from the moisture in the air that got into my bike from riding around in these conditions but im not sure. I checked my air filiter and it didnt look clean but could these problems be fixed by simply cleaning the air filter? This only takes place within the first 5 minutes of the ride and then goes away like nothing is wron. Not to sure whats wrong or how to fix it any ideas?

Don't know how many miles you have on it, but I would replace the plug wires. They do go bad sometimes, and mostly in damp weather. Something to check anyway.

Flames out the exhaust - all the fuel ain't getting combusted in the chamber.
Yes poor air flow could cause the fuel not to atomize enough.
Weak spark?
Plugs and gap
might try adjusting the pushrods.
