Question Drill into the exhaust & install Rivet-Really?

I am replacing the mufflers on my 2007 FXDL with the older version Screaming Eagle II slip ons. The instructions direct me to drill a hole and secure the slip ons with a rivet and standard rivet tool. For real? I did purchase new clamps, but I'm not comfortable drilling and riveting.

Is this overkill??

you can put them on with out the rivet if you want, but I have seen both mufflers slide off no matter how tight you make the clamps.

Use a screw.

I install them without first. If they slide back, than rivet. Use a little sealant on the joint to help with leaks as well.
