Exhaust question

Exhaust question
i was told that i could take my stock staggered exhaust off and run my bike without any mufflers whatsoever. my question is...one, will this damage my bike? And two, if it does work, do i have to worry about remapping my computer? Thanks in advance for any help received.
Btw, its a 2008 FXDC 105th.

You could...........................but it would run like complete ****!
Be loud as HE11!
Everybody would hate you!
And it would probably damage your bike by running way too lean.
You need some back pressure to produce torque. Period. I don't even need to answer the rest of your questions.

several dynas and other harley big twins i've owned, i've ended up using rindhart slip ons. running without any mufflers on your bike would cause such a lean condition, that you'd end up with harming your engine. an old tip that still works though if you want the "harley" sound, is to take an appropriate sized hole saw and cut the weld right inside of the rear of the muffler. it takes a pretty good half inch drill motor, and a friend who can hang on to the muffler body. after cutting the weld, you take a piece of broomstick and drive out the restricted factory baffle. they sound sorta like an old flathead ford motor on glasspacks. which is exactly what you have after removing the baffle. still have the fiberglass packing so it's not annoyingly loud, but a good sound. a fuel management device would be a good thing too. like the pcv, and the best price on them is through fuelmoto. the touring sections sponsor. coring your stock mufflers does work, and sounds sweet too.

First off, running without exhaust or basically having drag pipes will not damage the motor if it is tunned for it. But..The lack of back pressure will definately effect the way the engine runs by reducing low end tourque and making a crap load of racket. As already mentioned a good set of slipons with minimal baffels will make plenty of noise and make all the back pressure necessary to keep the engine happy.
