Valve Train Noise?

Valve Train Noise?
I've been hearing a metallic pinging noise when I open the throttle (not WOT) between 2200 & 2800 rpms with my new build. My local HD service mgr and a tech checked it out. They said it's valve train noise and it's normal with the 255 cams I added in the 103 build a couple months ago. The engine was dyno'd with a SERT after the build and the AFR is right on the money. It runs good though it has a lot more decel pop now. I've put about 4,000 miles on the bike since the build and the sound has been more noticeable the last 1,000 miles.
Does this sound correct?
What causes valve train noise and will it harm the engine?
Thanks guys!

Could be detonation, try the highest Octane gas you can get from a pump with three hoses(with one hose you get about a gallon of whatever was pumped last[regular] ) and use an octane booster. If the noise goes away try backing the timing off a little. An oil cooler also may help with the problem. Hope this helps.
