Default 88 to 103

Searched this area for a couple of days now and can't find an answer.

Going from 88 to 103,
do I need to have the cases cleared for the longer stroke?
do I need to have the cases machined for the bigger cylinders?

Enquiring minds want to know !!
An NO I don't want to go to 110 !

Cases need to be split as you will need a new crank...and that is not cheap.

Nothing wrong with a nicely built 95" set up.

the answer to your question is yes to crank .

need to have cases split and 43/8 crank installed and no to the cases being bored.

now a nicely done 95 will keep the lower end intact and give you some nice power gains comparable to a 103 of the same specs.

now if you want a nicely done hot rod 95 get the crank run-out checked.

Dave from JD's and i were discusing that today for another guy who is going to run a hot 95 with 11-1 compression and woods9b cam with pro street baisley heads

that will be a screamer for sure.
Why is it that everyone thinks they need big cubic inches to support big numbers?

A well built 95" will run with that 103 if not outrun it all day long.
You build a 107 right and you can ge huge HP and TQs out of them.

How well with the 11:1 engine run if you're traveling cross country and all the have is the regular fuel?

regular fuel will be fine as long at the bike is tuned for it. I would say to get the highest grade fuel they have whether it be 93 or 91 octane. Your build would be based on having a pretty torquey motor, but a reliable one.

not a bar bike or a race bike. Bar bike meaning driving to bars locally only just to show off kinda thing. If you wanna outrageous build with high compression and some serious HP and TQ then I would imagine you wouldnt be taking it across country.

why not a 98 -- no need to split the cases -- if you are dead set on splitting the cases might well do a 113 or 120 the difference in $$$ is not going to be that great.

I've got too much crank run out now, reason for not going to gear drive cams. If I'm going to split the cases, might as well do it right.
I've heard horror stories about the 110 in early twin cam cases, reason for not wanting to go to 110. The 103 seems/sounds like the better size without major problems. I haven't heard too much on the 95 (good or bad) but what was just posted, sounds good.
Running carb, not efi, which means bigger carb from the get go, no biggy. HD screaming eagle heads are for efi only. edelbrock heads ?? the same way from what I've gathered. So it seems I'm stuck with crappy flowing heads unless I can find a great machine shop to port/polish them for that little bit of extra HP.
My other major problem is that I live in California and have to watch the p's & q's (politicians and quacks).

Thanks for the input and replies.
