I have been unable to ride for the past year due to health issues and my bike has been sitting in the garage. It has been started twice in the past year. Now, I'm able to ride again and want to minimize any potential problems from old gas in the tank. What should I do before firing it up?

I think I would pull the line off the tb add an extension of hose to it into a fuel can and run a wire from battery to the fuel pump fuse and pump it out. Add fresh gas an go.

Pull the fuel line off the petcock and attach a line to drain the tank with. If you parked it with the valve closed the carb bowl will be dry and not have to worry about it.

It was parked with the fuel valve open not closed.

 

Ooops, missed the date of you bike. Ignor my efi adivice for your carbed bike. I would still drain the old fuel out.
