Default Engine Vibration

Ok this winter I did a big bore kit SE pistons Se 203 cams port and polish on the heads etc!!
Bike runs like a raped ape!!! But yesterday friend wanted to ride it so we switched bikes, he was very impressed but what I noticed was how much smoother his was, a 2003 heritage softail , I dont mean at idle I know they are the balanced engine I used to ride a heritage !!! My 2006 ultra now just seems to have more vibration when riding, now I seem to since it more !!!! I am a technician for FORD moco so im thinking I cant see any way the cams or pistons can cause this unless incorrect install!!! Well bike has about 1500 miles since the build was done!!!
So engine mount?? exhaust????
Any ideas I can feel it in the floor boards and It starts in about 2000 rpm!!
Its not real bad but I really noticed it after I rode a different bike!!!

thanks mike

When doing the upgrades that you did, you will get slightly more vibration. Now that you've ridden another bike, especially balanced, you will notice it more on yours. However, it wouldn't hurt to check your motor mount, etc. anyway as they do frequently go bad.

Right
Check every thing.
Over the years when I encounter vibration, that shouldn't be there, I have found something is loose or not tightened well or is tounching
Also be sure and check the top motor mounts. There is a sequence of tighting. Do the head mounts, then the frame mounts, then if yours is like mine, the three sloted bolts that connect them.
Check the handle bar mounts, floorboards etc. The exhaust including the baffles.
Also check the wheel balance. This will cause all kind of vibration.

Unhappy

I have my 08 Ultra at Montgomery HD looking for the same thing. It's not so bad you can't drive it but something is not right for a stock motor.
They are going to check the crank run out next. They have checked all the motor mounts and bolts. Not what I was hoping for on a bike with 6000 miles on it.

According to HD, what ever it is will not be covered under warranty in my situation. I hope they will reconsider.

I have heard a lot of good things about the mechanics in Montgomery. I hope they can find my problem?

I apparently voided all my warranty by adding the Champion Conversion?

I could see their point of view if I were having problems with the rear of the bike.

Cool Warranty

Harley Davidson will do anything to void a warranty. DO NOT put that iPod holder on the handle bar.

I know what you are saying ,i have had two new harleys a 1995 and a 2007 ,I have taken them both in when they were new for warranty claims and both times got the run around 12 years apart but same old bullsh!t,I don't even bother anymore ,the 07 still has warranty but it ain't worth my time and effort to take it in as i know i will just get the run around, the high pressure fuel line cracked a month ago which should be warranty i just bought one and replaced it myself ,I figure I was time and money ahead .

A built, higher compression engine is going to have a bit more in the way of vibration. As others have said, check all bolts, mounts, etc. One thing that is rarely mentioned is how the tune can impact the smoothness , too much timing can have an impact, even if you are not hearing any detonation some tuners will go for the max and load it with fuel to compensate, that is a recipe for vibration.

Dalton beat me to it, AGAIN. He's right with the tuning aspect. When I put the tmax on, it was considerably less vibration than stock tune.
