Dilema
Hello All,
I have a problem I'm hoping to get some advice/feedback on. My builder has just finished my 95" build on my 2005 Deluxe. Here are my specs:
Jugs bored to 95" with
SE Cast 10.25 pistons
Heads ported, polished, and valves cleaned up (stock size retained) by Big Boyz. Compression set at about 10.25 or so.
Woods 6-6R cam with new tensioner conversion kit which includes billet cam plate and higher volume oil pump.
Exhaust is a Paughco 2-1 header (not stepped) and straight pipe fishtail. However, I have installed the Thundermonster baffle for 2-1 exhausts that sits where the header meets the tailpipe to provide sufficient (I hope) backpressure.
2005 SERT
At the advice of one of the members here on the forum, I contacted Dave at JD's Cycle Works to get a break-in map for my set-up. Unfortunately, he has been looking at this for the last week, and so far has not been able to come up with a map he has done on a previous tune that is close to mine. He's still working on it, but he indicated that my exhaust is throwing him off. I appreciate his honesty as he does not want to sell me a map that will be terrible for the break-in. So, I am asking any and all for suggestions. I have looked through the maps that came with my SERT, and didn't really see one I thought was close enough, but maybe others would have a different opinion. My build is done and I am going nuts trying to find a solution, so greatly appreciate any advice from the members. Thanks,
Ted

See if you can find a map for, High Com, 2-1, and a SE251 cam. If not, look for one with a short cam that has other similar stuff.
I had to use one for a SE257 cam as a base map. Check the "tuning constancs" table and put the engine size and injectors for what you have. Put the "Bias"tables to 700.
Will work I expect. If you didn't mill the heads, cleaning them up may leave you around 10 C/R really. Course the gasket.
Main thing is the spark and that is what the short (relative for SE) cam will cover. See how the plugs look after awhile.
Have fun, be OK.

Thanks, Old Gunny. I am running a .03 Cometic head gasket, so hoping my CR is closer to 10.25, but 10-10.25 is OK for the Woods 6. I wouldn't be opposed to having it broken-in on the Dyno, then tuned, but I don't know of a great tuner in Western Michigan (Grand Rapids). Found one in Detroit area, but he is booked for another 3-4 weeks. Further input/suggestions definitely welcome.

Check out S&S site about break in procedure.
A suitable map like above will get the job done. Driveability is important. May have to fiddle with the IAC some to get it righter.
I finally got a TTS Mastertune to cover the VE. Spark you can creap up on after that.
But that is for later. Don't worry break in too much. It'll be OK.

I'd like to ask one more question on this topic. I went to the www.hdmaps.com website to look at their maps for 95" builds. I know, $70 is a lot to pay, but might be cheap if the map is a lot closer to the canned SERT maps. Here are the choices with general descriptions:
2005 FXST BASSANI DRAGS, SE AC, 211 CAMS, 1550 KIT.MT6
2005, FLS, SAMPSON FISH, SE AC, 203 CAMS, 1550 KIT.MT6
2005, FLS, V+H BIGSHOTS, SE AC, 211 CAMS, 1550 KIT.MT6
Of course, I have headwork and the Woods 6, so I know it's different, but just trying to get closer than canned. I did see some maps for a 103, so include this one as well:
2005 FLSTFSEI V+H BIGSHOTS SE AC 103 CVO
2005, FLS, V+H PRO PIPE, SE AC, 103 KIT.MT6
2005 FXSTBI, PROPIPE, SEAC, 251, SECNC, 103.MT6
2005 FLS 103CVO SE AC Big Radius.MT6
Just going by the descriptions, would anyone be willing to offer opinions as to which may be a closer fit. Thanks again very much.

Yeah the SE 251 cam, without getting involved with Centerline and Seperation Angles is the closes to the Woods torque cams. That will get VE close and Spark advance pretty close. The Woods cam passes more air and holes it in better.
HD doesn't push that cam much but it seems to me a good one for low and mid range bagger type. Wonder why? Maybe emessions something like that.
