the pro tuner only adjusts the fuel (AFR)and is not capable of adjusting timing reqirements of a motor, the sert or equivalent must be used along with the pro tuner to adjust timing,if your motor is basically stock with air cleaner and pipes the pro tuner should be fine to use without the sert,it is when you get into the high compression motors that the sert will be required to adjust the timing, these units seem to work decent ,I had the Terry tvll installed on my bike when it was stock and it seemed to work good enough, the Terry TVll is pretty much the exact same unit as the HQ pro tuner other than the stickers they put on them, but I believe the pro tuner has been programmed with "performance" in mind and the Terry Tvll is more epa oriented as it is suppose to be 50 state legal,so if I had it to do over again I would definetly buy the pro tuner over the Tvll ,plus headquarters does offer some customer service,Terry Components customer service is non existant.

Yes you can, but.....
The T-max has been notorious for poor mileage and it is not a true "autotune". You have to load a map tat is close and then keep fussing with it until it is "right" which for some, really never occurs.
For some it works very well, but not without work.
The pro-tuner is preporgrammed to get the AFR right, in all conditions and modes. If the bike is stock, just add it and ride. If modified, you will need a system to adjust the timing.
