Default Adj Pushrod ? Need Help!

I used screaming eagle adjustable pushrods after installing Andrews 26 g cams in my '06 Ultra. They have fine threads and the instructions say to go 2.5 turns after taking out the slack. I had a tech at the Harley dealership tell me he goes 4.25 turns and uses two wrenches to tighten the nut which leaves him around 4 turns out. The valve train was quite noisy at 2.5 turns and seems better at 4. I would just like to hear from someone who has done these to know which is right. It runs good but I just don't want to float a valve at high rpm's and do any damage. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. I had the plugs out and made the ajd's from the base circle of the cam and then turned her over several times by hand before initially starting the engine after going to 4 turns. I would just like to know for sure which is correct.

Thanks Glen!

HD recommends 2.5 turns after 0 lash but many run up to 4 turns and many run less than 2 turns. You have quite a bumper with the lifters. If it is quiet at 4 turns you are good to go.

Yeah, there are good instructions here. Different manufacturers will have different tpi. I adjusted my SE's to 2 3/4 turns, but will probably go out to 3 1/2 or so. I just want to confirm that the SE's have 32 tpi before I overextend them and cause damage. They do get quieter as you extend them though...

If you experience is like mine, adjusting pushrods with 26G's does nothing as far as making them quiet. My bike was dead silent till I put in 26G's. Not it rattles like a shovel when it gets hot. I listened the experts and adjusted pushrods this way and that way, swapped lifters, and added the famed Baisley spring. Nothing quitened down the noise. That was 3 years ago. I'm used to the racket now.

The whole thing about HD lifters is they are really Small block Chevy lifters. The designed in range from one end to the other is 0.200 IN. Now the book says aim to the middle or 0.100 down from just touching or zero. Depending on the threads on your adjustable pushrod is how many turns down you go. To get the middle.
But remember SB chevy's don't normally see these spring pressures. There is all this unnecessary movement going on.
That is why JIM's and S&S and others have lifters or kits that limit travel to somewhere around 0.100 total or less.. Works much better for harleys.
And also why if you target 0.150, down from zero, (or 0.050 from the bottom) many times things quietin down. Will also make starting a hot high compression rig much easier. Less bleed down. The valves open like they are supposed to not build pressure sky high at the button push. Which can break things.
But you don't want to pump up this much if valve to piston is a concern. But normal riding is OK.
Why I have S&S travel limiters. One less thing to worry about. Too poor for Jims or any others.
Oil is not a cushion. It is the media that allows the thing to be self adjusting. To some extent.
With enough oil pressure.
Oil pressure also keeps the chain adjusters on the new 96 TC's hold tighter. Now if they just hold out.

I mostly learn two ways. I read, read and think and think some more then I go out and break something which cost money and the Wife gets mad and then I understand what the hell I read.
