Any tips on getting a slip on to slip off. I sprayed some PB Blaster on it and tapped the bracket but it didn't move. I didn't want to try too hard until I got a little more info. Thanks
Get a strap wrench (rubber) and twist on them a bit back & forth. Are they riveted on? If so you need to drill out the rivets gently. Let the PBB soak overnight. Then maybe if still stuck heat the intake sleeve that slips over the pipe lightly with a torch and twist with the wrench. Make sure the clamps are completely loose.
I rotated mine and tapped on the crossover port and bent the **** out of one of them. I guess if I ever need to I could reshape it close to original. But yeah, I read that it was about a 2 beer job and it took me at least 8.
A little trick I did when I changed them out on my 99 Heritage was to get a good set of leather gloves and loosen the clamps. Start the bike and run her just long enough to heat up the pipes to the point that you can still grab them and wiggle them loose. Worked like a charm on mine. And for what it's worth, I worked for over an hour prior to starting the bike to heat the pipes. After I ran her, they were both off in less than 5 minutes.
