I tend to do alot of road trips around Florida (I am located outside of Daytona Beach). I basically want some more power (not of the line power so much as over 2000 rpm, I prefer to be at 30-40mph and be able to punch it and have instant power). I have noticed that the stage II 103 tends to favor power of the line rather than what I am looking for. While I am deciding on what to do, I went ahead and ordered my V&H Monster Ovals & SE Heavy Breather, I figured I will need to upgrade in intake & exhaust reguardless. A few friends told me an easy way to get what I am looking for is to simply upgrade the cam (not sure what size, cost etc, can anyone give info on that?). I noticed way too many complaints about the 110 and I am not looking for a crotch rocket, I want to keep my touring bike what it is designed for but just more power on 2000 rpm +.
Thanks, any help is appreciated.

The biggest problem HD had with the 110cu is the back cylinder got hot. Low compression supposley is what caused the problem, Got a lot of people i know that has the 110cu in their bike and its running good and they really like then. I've ridden the 110cu motor.
You will ask yerself, why didn't harley put the 110cu motor in their bikes if they run this stong and smooth inistead of the 96cu.
Got to Demo days at a dealership and ride a 110cu SE street Bob or a 110se Springer if they still have em and tell me you do not like everything about the 110 motor other than what you hear on the street. Everbody's not always right. Ask the owners that has gottn them in the last year or so. And if you do any performance upgraded to a 110 they really rock.
With a good air intake and the right pipes and a tuner a 110cu motor can put out 100 hp and over 100 tq.
You might be amazed.

I have 2 buddies with the 110 and they run OK. They will pull a 96" but the 103" with a healthy cam will run away from it. Now with that said. It looks to me that Cycotic is looking for a little grunt from his Harley and should stay with harley parts as it is a new bike. Look into the cams but from what it seems like you should do the 255 or 260 cam with some decent compression. Liek I said I have the following and it runs great and is reliable...it's a Harley and not a hot rod and having 100+/100+ on a bagger is just what the Dr. ordered.

103"
10.5.1 SE Forged Pistons
SE valve springs
SERT
SE 260 cams
SE Heavey clutch spring
$2200 installed and dyno'd.

It was a difficult decision for me as I usually do all my own motor work on all vehicles but my bike has the extended warranty and I was looking for exactly what I got which is good enough for a bagger. It runs cold, doesn't pop or lug and I enjoy it.

So basically, if I want the same as what you have, I would just order the Stage II 103 kit and request 260 cams & the Forged Pistons in replace of what comes with the kit (I believe its no extra cost to do that). The big question is if my HD dealer (small town dealer) has a dyno.

This is directly from my work order from Monterey County Harley...

Parts Quantity/Description Cost
18013=03a 1 kit valve spring 119.99
16546-99 1550 conversion kit/black 239.96
18400-03 perfect fit pushrods 95.99
22144-08a big bore pistons 223.99
17052-99b gasket kit/top end 71.99
37951.98 diaphragm spring 26.96
25244-99a cam cover gasket 5.39
Chrome oil filter 13.49
Oil 25.16
Primary oil 8.09
32321-91 SE spark plugs 23.40
25475-06 SE 260 Cam kit 239.99
32109-08a SERT 413.99

Total for parts and labor was $2167.36. The bike liek I said is 100+/100+ and runs sweet. For a bagger is pulls like an S.O.B.

I believe in the aftermarket, like Hillside. On my 09, I have decided on the BEST possible equipment and parts for my bike. So... aftermarket it will be!

But, you want the possibility of a warranty?

I would CALL DOC!!!

JD will have his number.

WOW! You sound like me? For 6 months I have been asking around the exact same questions. I have extended warranty, too. But, I have come to the conclusion that an aftermarket build would be best for LONG-TERM reliability. This may be my last bike, you know? (second to last, anyway).

Sux that for a POSSIBILITY of a warranty, you have to decide NOW!!!

Good luck, my friend!

I read all the above and it seems to me I want your setup. Just took delivery of my 09 SG this week and want to use my HD dealer for any mech work. Currently running V&H Big Shots, stock pipes, Heavy Breather and PC-V. The head wrench at the dealer says the heads are just fine for a mid RPM torque rise so my question is would your parts list work as well with PC as the SERT? In your opinion is there a noticeable midrange gain from the higher compression pistons?
