Default ?? about true duals

All you guys that are using them, is it just for sound? I have put crossover pipes on a number of V8s over the years and the performance actually INCREASES. I would expect the same on a V twin. I know on my bike, the right pipe "works" better that the left one, because of the shape/configuration so I am guessing true duals would sound better, but aren't you losing power that way?

Yes you will lose a little power with true duals. Some people like care and others don't.

I disagree with the lost of power. I believe I increased power & will soon do a dyno to prove it. If you know exhaust technology with back pressure, cones and ect.. you don't have to lose power.

I also like the clean look and decrease of heat from the right side.

But the essential question is, do you HAVE to do all the other stuff? Like the air cleaner, FI remapping, Power Commanders and all that? Seems like an awful lot of dorking around with stuff, and for what. Not even the folks here can seem to agree. I just find it all very confusing...

can't really speak for any one else,
but for me,
I don't like HD stock headers but I do like true duals.

It's just a decision, it's my/your decision.

Do your own homework and when you're done:
decide for yourself what will or will not be on Your Bike.
That simple.

have fun

The best set of pipes with a crossover, or the best 2 into 1 set of headers, will always outperform the best set of true duals, as long as you're talking about the normal rpm riding range.

Low end will suffer. Power will generally increase after 3500. I put Rineharts on and sound is good. But will probably go 2-1 and sell the Duals which are not even 1 year old. This is just my opinion. Pipes are best described as get what you like and are pleased with.

Jim I have an 05 Ultra also. I went to V&H true duels with Harley touring mufflers, mostly for the cleaner look and the decrease in the heat from the right side. I'm using an Arlan Ness Big Sucker air intake with the basic Stage 1 download. I really can't tell any decrease in performance anywhere. Just for general riding I think the Stage 1 download is fine.
