You need to bolt down the cylinders, I use some short pieces of PVC pipe and a couple of head bolts. Then rotate the motor until the piston is at it's highest position, clean the carbon off the piston, take a flat edge and lay it over across the cylinder in the middle of the piston, then take feeler gauges and try to fit them between the flat edge and the piston. If none of them will fit, measure to see if the piston is above the cylinder by using the feeler gauges on the cylinder under the flat edge.
What you want is 0 deck height if possible, the top of the piston exactly even with the top of the cylinder.
Check this link out, it gives a full detailed instructions with pictures.

That is the catch 22...It is a "calculated" 10:1 with the .052 gasket that comes with the kit. If I blueprint for 0 deck and identical chambers then use a .030, I could easily end up with 10.2 or 10.3:1. DOH, Any one want to trade 37gs for some 54gs????? AW come on. You know you waaannnna.

Sell your 37's, should be able to get $200 for them since they are brand new. Then you can pick up a pair of Woods TW-6G cams either new or you can look for a used set.
The Woods cams are worth it...............they are my 3rd set of cams, and are by far the best I've used.
They will take from 10:1 to 10.2:1 and be awesome...........great power from off-idle to 5500rpm.
