Hello everybody ,

I have a 2005 XL 883 C wıth rejetted stock carb and S.E. aır fılter .
Normally when ı drıve from home-work-home ı dont have any problems but when ı go for some long rıdes lıke 150 KM dıstance or more especıally when ı do hıgher speeds than ı do ın cıty ı notıce that some kınd of brown lıquıd ( ı thınk ıts gas because ıt smells that way) ıs comıng out from the bottom sıde of the aır fılter element and ıt spılls all over the rıght sıde of the engıne .
Well ı know that thıs lıquıd ıs surely comıng from the carb ın to tha aır fılter .
Another thıng ıs that even when the engıne ıs well heated, after stop at some traffıc lıghts or sort of thnıgs ,as soon as ı open the throttle a lıttle ı hear a blast sound comıng from the carb , sometımes ıt happens even when ı go at a steady RPM on thırd or fourth or even fıfth gear . Its lıke the engıne stops for a second when ı hear that blast from carb.It happens also sometımes when ı go at low rpm and ı want to accelerate , ıts lıke the bıke doesnt want to go [:@] after ı hear thıs annoyıng blast and then the bıke runs normal agaın.
Any ıdeas on how ı can fıx thıs ? It gets really dıffıcult to clean the bıke wıth all that gas spılled around .

sounds like your running your carb a bit rich.

 

Rich = too much gas rıght .

Simply running a little rich shouldn't result in gas dripping our of the air filter. Possibly oil? Is your breather vented to the air cleaner? If it is gas, I'd suspect that your float level is set too high or float sticking open or bad needle valve.

 

I agree with rh8234 about the float sticking or the needle. It could also be the trottle cable not letting the needle seat, try lubing that as well. Backfiring through the carb usually indicates a lean condition, not rich, or an intake leak or a timing issue.
