Default new 95 kit,10.5 to 1,htcc,pinging just a little bit?

Well I rode it for the first time, here is the combo, 03 ultra,se htcc heads ,se 10.5 to 1 pistons,se hd cylinder studs, se adj push rods, s&s 585 gear drive cams,se hd clutch pressure plate,se air cleaner, power commanderII, Before the build I told the hd service writer what I was after, 100/100 with out having to spin it up high to achieve those #. basically I am after all the low end torque I can get without having to rev the crap out of it, I like the sound of my rineharts but they can get very loud up top. For the first 1000 miles they said keep it under 3500rpm,then put it on the dyno , I put about 300 on it yesterday first time out and it deffinitatly pulls alot better but in top gear I hear alittle pinging for a split second, then goes away, when you gas on it while at a steady speed, I put mobil and bp 93 with no difference in the pinging, altitude is 600 above sea, if the cam choice is not right for this combo I am all ears for what I am after. I don't really want to take timming/power away to stop the pinging or have to add oct booster everytime I gas up,could it be on the lean side causing it to ping? I asked s&s tech what rpm range the 585 cams were designed for, still waiting to hear on that... Did my service guy pick the right cam for me?? for a 10.5 to 1 cr, thanks in advance.

585 appears to be the correct cam. Could need a bit more time on the dyno to eliminate the ping.

Ultra
There is a discussion going on over at the HTT board on about the HTCC stuff,
There are a lot of guys that have these builds, look under the tc88 and tc88b then look for the HTCC bashing thread. The HTT board is on MSN

Well if it pings for a second and stop the ECM retarded the timing that is normal. TE AFR is more than likely very lean and causing this. Yopu did not mention having it tuned, and the HTCC head is a bit of a issue. We will not port them at all. Not worth themoney invested to weld them up and then port after the cost of the head in the first place. The CNC head is aok but not really for a low end grunt. Again I can offer you a New Cast head that will out flow, the CNC head and be less money and the bottom line will be you will make better numbers and the bike will REV MUCH FASTER than the CNC which is a very lazy revving set up, due to the large port, and port volume.

Well they put a generic map in it to get me by until about 1000 miles then its hammer time on the dyno for a custom map was what I was told when I picked it up basically. I believe they put like 50 miles on it before I picked it up and I think theyput it on the dyno for some lower rpm air fuel I believe, its been a few months ,I had the work done over the winter. I should mention the initial 300 mile ride yesterday was not very warm out approx 65 to 70 ish and it was pinging with good 93 gas, if it was say 90 deg I believe the pinging would have been much worse ?? I also noticed the red engine light stays on for about 5 seconds after start up then goes off, I don't recall this before the build.I will go pull the plugs to check there condition? I think if the cams are not for my riding style I will coutinue with the break in then dyno it before I start changing things .

Cold weather needs more fuel and having 93 octane is great but really until you have it tuned you are stuck you could try another map in it to stop the ping or run it in data mode if using a sert and see where it is pinging. and retard timing.
