Default oil on sparkplug threads

I have oil on the sparkplug threads on the front cylinder, what could be some of the causes? I have an 04 ultra with Headquarters 113" build and about 6000 miles on it. I did the install myself and was wondering if I did something wrong. It was my first time on a V-twin. I thought I followed the service manual, but I still could have missed something. Rear cylinder is dry. What are some things to check? compression? Bike runs well but seems like it is more noisey lately on the top end. I know the forum will come through.

Thanks

Tim

It could be as simple as the gasket on the plug not seating correctly. Change it and try again. Thinking 113 myself. How do you like it?

Love it, If I had to do it again I would do the 120". It wasn't available at that time. HQ's parts work very well together. I wouldn't hesitate to do another build from them, in fact I just did the 95" sport on my 03 wideglide. It feels almost as powerfull as the 113 ultra, but then it is a few hundred pounds lighter. Do what they say and you will have a powerfull running scoot!

Good to hear. Anyway, if the plug change didn't fix it, compression, or better still a leak down test would be good to do. If that's good, maybe valve seal. Compare the colour of the two piston tops looking in the sparkplug holes. I have seen many plugs exibit this oily thread thing on a perfectly good engine. Seems like the slightest seepage on the washer will allow oil to be pushed up the threads.
