Default Engine hop up question?

With the economy in it's current state, I'm having a real hard time cutting loose with the $2500-$3000 for a 103 or 107 for my 07 low. So, I was thinking. What about cams and headwork only, no big bore. Is it possible/feasable/advisable to go that route? What do you think a guy could get with say a TW-6 cam, and a GOOD port and polish, along with massaging the chamber a bit to bump the CR a little?

Thanks in advance!

I was trying to price out the same thing with the tw6-6 or 408-44 and ported heads milled with a thinner head gasket to up the comp. But imho i think its best to do the cams you want then maybe next year do the headwork and bigbore together. Its much more cost effective as the bigbore seems to be only $500-$700 more. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in.

If you are going to have your heads off,It would be too easy to just pull off cylinders have them bored and buy new pistons for about $500 or less. Then you be done and it will save you labor for doing bigbore if you wanted it down the road.

cast pistons are really cheap and so is a good cam. if you do the work yourself you can save a lot of money.
the reason i mentioned JD's is if you went with something he recomends he probley has a map for it and that will get you really close.
thats another thing figure on a way to tune it also .
get the TTS call Dave and see ......

I bet Scott from Hillside will chime in on this. See what he has to say.

Mike,
We have done just that for several builds recently. 3 from Long Island, and they do not want any more. hehe.
One client from Ft. Ann, N.Y., almost got into a fistfight with a guy that was totally convinced that it was not a 96" powerplant. "It"s way bigger than that".
He got bit by the bug. He is coming back in for a 124".

I started out doing a se 103 kit with the 44 mag cams and no headwork at this time, but after talking to scott, he said that the cams really need more compression to work really well. So now, he should be finishing up boring my jugs to 107 and my stage II heads. I've been bit, and now wondering if I should go bigger, and I dont even have the bike back together yet!! LOL

bore your juggs out for around $125.00
add SE high compression pistons $279.95
SE 285 cams $299.95 SE super tuner
$459.95 and open up your breather and exahust
add about $550.00 labor and your done
there's you a 103 engine for less than $2000.00
you had better pick up some extra back tires
you are going to need them
