Default K & N filter; what’s the red oil for?

I have a k & n filter why do you have to put the red oil on the filter after cleaning it? Do you need it or can you just not put the oil on the filter?

the oil is for small partacles in the air helps them cling to the filter, beware do not soak your filter with this oil all you need is a very light coat,a light mist is good

The oil keeps the dirt suspended so it doesn`t actually fill in the pores of the gauze. If you ran it dry it would most likely plug up the filter prematurely and it wouldn`t rinse out properly rendering the high flow properties and recharging null and void. Therefore throwing it away.Toby
