Default SE 251 and 253 cam info needed

Hi Guys...
So I'm in the process of building the motor in my Rocker.. I'm familiar with both Woods and Andrews cams but this time around I'm going to use the SE 103 kit through the dealer... They're going to keep my warranty in place and that's the reason I'm going with the SE parts at this time but I'm tweaking the Stage 2 kit or looking at the stage 3 or tweaking it too... Got a friend that really likes the 211 cams for lighter bikes but I think I want more lift so I can go a little further in the future once the warranty is done sooooooooo...

Does anyone have any experience with the SE251 or SE253 cams?.... They say the 251 is a high lift version of the 211 and I like a lot of things about it but I also like the looks of the 253 with a little less lift... I'm not doing the heads at this time even though I know now would be the time but this impending divorce has me cutting back on some spending.. Which of these cams would work good now and in the future once i do the head?.. Also which one do you think (or know) has the flatter tq curve?. Where does HP kick in on them?.. The 255 seems like a decent cam but the tq really drops out on it and the HP isn't all that impressive.. Looking for something that will sustain a longer.. I guess that's what I really need to know..

Hopefully you guys can help me out and educate me on these 2..

Thanks

Where do you want your bikes power band? Low through the midrange, or midrange to top end?

If it was me I like my torque down low so it would have to be the 251. Problem with that is the stock head will only handle roughly .570 to .580 lift and even at that you need to check each valve spring and retainer for bind and clearance. And in my opinion the compression wont be high enough for any usable torque in the lower end. The 253 will work but the compression is a little low and without head work it wont be as efficient on the top end and will only leave you with a narrow power band.
So that leaves us with reality. One question I like to ask is, how many times do you twist that motor over 5500? So I would have to flip a coin and either go with a woods 6 or a Andrews 54 for today, and leaves room for tomorrow. Knowing I was getting head work in the future, I would probably go with the 54. This is only my opinion, others will very!

I want the power band to be a little on the mid to top end range but I'd still like a little grunt on the bottom.. I'm not talking about a tq monster on the bottom but a little extra grunt would be nice..

The stock heads should be able to handle the 251 but springs will need to be changed.. I agree the Woods and Andrews cams are nice but I doubt the dealer will maintain the engine warranty with these cams installed... This new pistons should bring the comp to 9.5-1.. Granted that comp isn't going to give me everything a high lift cam has to give but it shouldn't be a slug either.. Then again, that's why I'm asking questions..

Maybe the 211 is the cam to use for this go around.. Any more help?

Compreshion and cam lift have almost nothing to do with each other. Compreshion and cam timing (profile) are what is most important.

I was always under the impression that to utilize the full potential of high lift cams it was best to have a higher cr...

Have the 251's in a touring bike, they work very well. I am running 10.5-1 compression pistons so that changes things somewhat on the comparison on how they would work in your bike, but I have a heavier bike so maybe that evens things up a bit. Don't have any experience with 253's so can't compare the 2 for you. If you are thinking about headwork down the line I would lean toward the 251's , yes you could probably squeeze more HP out of other cams like some have mentioned but that game of chasing down #'s on the dyno to brag about gets real expensive real fast!

can you post a dyno sheet ? i would love to see the torque curve.

Haven't done the dyno yet , still on the map that was put on for break-in , so not running perfect by any means but it is fun as hell to ride!

Default se 253

this summer i went with 103" jugs and had S&S do the heads. se 253 cams with hugh comp. pistons and increased the combustion chamber. dont let anyone fool you the cams are fine. im getting 95 hp and 105 ft/lbs of tq.. bike is fastest from 30 to who knows cause it burries the needle in the blink of an eye. im not pullin bags so there is a weight difference.
