Default Jims 4 5/8" crank Salvageable ?

Hey guys , bought a used Jims 4 5/8" crank from a shop , i was told it was in good shape , got the crank in from UPS and to my surprise wasn't in the shape that was described to me over the phone . Imagine that ...

Theres some scoreing on both the pinion and sprocket shaft and some grooves on the end of the pinion shaft . Haven't had a chance to check the run out yet , the only way that i could do that is take it to my buddies shop and chuck it up in his lathe and check the run out that way .

If you guys could take a look at the pics and let me know if this crank can be saved let me know .

UPDATE 12/14/08
went and measured the runout yesterday at my buddies shop :

flywheels where both .014
end of the pinion shaft .007
end of the sprocket shaft .004

Hope you didn't pay too much for it, but I agree, call Hobans, send the pics and see if they could salvage it and at what cost. I would absolutely not use it in the shape it is in.

The pinion area can be machined down and a hardened wear sleeve can be installed. Grooving on one side like that would indicate runout to some degree. Good chance the crank is not straight, but could be rebuilt and make it better than it was from new.
