Had a 99 XL1200C that would do 115 easy and with a little more road and hunkered down hit 120. Sounds like the rear cylinder is running rich. Should have a nice BLUE spark and you should be able to hear it SNAP when it jumps the gap.

I did not check the compression at full throttle just at idle? Was this wrong?

Hold the throttle wide open, both plugs out and where the gauge settles after cracking is your reading. Tester should have a one way valve.

Ok. Today was the last day of vacation so I pulled the plugs and did another compression test with the throttle wide open. Both cylinders were between 137-140 PSI. I picked up a set of screaming eagle plug wires but didn't get to put them on. I am going to try Sunday if possible and drain the tank, change the wires and fuel ( petcock) filter. Anymore suggestions? Thanks

Yeah you would think it has a too big of jet for altitude wouldn't you. But I bought 20 miles away.

Darn, used to have that problem in dirt bikes. Did the previous owner ever get it jetted properly for the altitude? If it is not that little petcock filter then that is where I would look next.

This has been a valuable tool in my tool box for many years. It quickly and easily diagnoses week spark that can cause misfire and cylinder flooding. HD coils are for the most part a excellent component. But just one in 100 can be enough to drive you insane. I have found what seem to be good spark not have the ability to fire under compression. I set this tool at 35K and the spark should jump the gap. Not to say your coil is failing, it's just to rule it out. This tool is available at most auto stores and typically sell for between $8 and $15.
