Default Cam Chain Adjusters

When the cam set is converted to gear drive on the 07 and up, what's done to the hydraulic adjusters pistons in order to keep them in place from oil pressure acting on a shoe that's no longer there?

Andrews mentions "port cover" below, appears this is actually blocking the port that feeds the adjusters.

From Andrew's TC 96 Gear Drive instructions:

7. Both stock hydraulic chain adjuster assemblies can
now be removed. Be careful not to lose the pistons and
internal springs which are part of the original chain
tensioning and oiling system.

8. Oil port covers can be installed over both orginal chain
oil ports since the gear drives do not use chain lubricators.

Reading the rest of the instructions finds no other mention of the adjusters.

Hey Ron,

No need to go to the gear drive in the 07 and up. It appears that HD has solved the tensioner problem with the new design. You can save yourself some bucks. I am running the stock tensioners in mine and so far it is fine at 30k miles. A few others may chime in to verify what I am saying.

A bit off topic here but can I retro fit my 06 with the new 07 adjuster or do I have to go gear drives. I don't think I will use stock parts when I tear it apart to replace the shoes. I'm planning to do it at 30k.

KB: Yes you can do the conversion! Here's some info, and IMO, would be the way to go vs. gear drives given the possible issues with our late model cranks:

If you're seriously considering the conversion, get in touch with John (Herko-Bagger) here:

He offers the conversion kit, and is great to deal with. Excellent customer service!

HTHs!
