Default Enricher/ Throttle Problem

I just inherited a '99 XL1200-C that has been sitting for a couple of years. I performed a basic tune (engine oil/ primary oil/ air filter/ plugs/ battery) and am able to get the bike started. The problem is that it won't stay running without the enricher AND if I give it any throttle, it kills the engine. Any ideas on possible problems/solutions would be a great help. I am a novice mechanic at best and can't seem to find much help in the Haynes manual.

Have you cleaned the carb? Sounds like it could be gummed up from sitting around. Before you take the carb off the bike. Try running some fuel additive carb cleaner through the fuel system, and clean out the what you can with some carb cleaner spray.

If that doesn't work you may want to take the carb of the bike and give it a good cleaning.

Thanks for the help. I'll work on that this weekend.
