Default Gas mileage again

What would be the best pipe setup for better gas mileage? Currently getting 40mpg with my style of riding. Assuming my style doesn't change, what would you folks suggest? Thanks.

Why stop with just a set of pipes when you can step up to one of these babies? Just kidding. It would help if you posted your current ride, any modifications and what kind of pipes you're currently using, that would give some of us a better idea of where you might look for more mileage. Personally, with a big bore kit, pipes, a/c redo and other mods on my bike, 40 mpg is very respectable on a long trip.

Sorry about the omission: 06 FLHTi.

Given that it's an 06 I would think that with a little more break-in you'll see better numbers, IMO. Don't know if you read my post on the 02 Fatboy and gas mileage but with just putting on more normal mileage(prior owner didn't use it much) I'm seeing higher numbers. You didn't mentione your style of riding (hole shots with WOT, lazy/easy cruising, etc). Just my guess but if you're always on the throttle you'll probably lose 4-5 mpg.

Well, today I ran 150 miles of freeway and rode between 70-80 mph. Even with high wind on the return trip I got 44mpg. I read somewhere on the forum that it's the on-the-road mpg that really counts. Hoorah.
BTW, what does hole shots with WOT mean?

Hard on the gas off the line (first out of the start or first to the first turn in a race) and Wide Open Throttle.

In other words, makin' your neighbors happy.

There ya go, better mileage. And 65-70 would get you even better mileage.
