96" jugs on a 88"
#3
wrenchguy24, I'm not trying to hijack the thread but BVBOB's answer was also something I was trying to understand while contemplating a 95" Build.
My question is, is compression decided on type of headwork or piston type, or a combination of both. I am thinking I want to go to 10.1 or 10.25-1 and want to learn how I get there.
Thx

compression ratio is a combo of both. to nail it to a specific number you need a list of data, piston compression highth, head gasket thickness, head chamber cc. tons of different products out there. i use the 10.5 s&s piston in my 95 with a stock head chamber size unaltered. and a .030 cometic head gasket.
don't spend a bunch of money on 96" cylinders as your cylinders are the same, you can have yours bored for 150 maybe 200bux. maybe less?

Thx for the reply's..Steve, I found a pair of Harley 95" BB jugs silver (EGS color) HD 16549-99 brand new in box on ebay for 180.00. I think it's a good deal. But on Chicago Harley site it states the bore is 3.875. Is that a standard bore for a 95"? will I be able to find pistons that match?
Yes, the new jugs are bored to 3.875, which is standard bore size for 95", but used seasoned jugs hold their roundness better when bored out.
when you have somebody bore your 88" jugs and buy pistons from them, they bore and hone the cylinders to custom fit the pistons that are going in them, not off the shelf pistons that *should* fit properly, if you are trying to save a couple hundred bucks, go ahead, it will run ok, maybe even pretty good, but I'll spank your *** with my custom fitted and matched components every time... it makes a difference for not much more coin.....
