Default OK I have spark now what?

I am positive I have a nice strong spark so lets get that out of the way. I'd posted before that the bike puked and I am not sure why. I was asked if there was oil in the crankcase and told to pull the drain plug and see what comes out. I did and there was about a cup of oil in there. I stood the bike up and made sure it was drained.

I had the drain plug out while I was testing for spark and I noticed that oil was coming out of the drain hole. Why is this?

I pulled the carb. All is spotless and everything is movin gas it should. The only question I have is how do I check to see if the jet is centered or not. Both diaphrams are fine.

Lastly since I have the carb off, do I want to pull the intake off again? I have already taken it off and replaced the gaskets. Could they be the problem again? I'm pretty sure I snugged them up ok.

8 oz doesn't sound bad. When you crank the bike oil will come out with the drain plug out. The scavenge pump will remove the oil but without the plug it's just running out. Put the plug back in. Put your hand over the manifold and crank the bike with the spark plugs in. You should be able to hear a leak at the head, and the suction should feel like it could suck your skin off your hand.
Stock or aftermarket carb?

Great advice. I'll actually cap with a clamp and a rubber cap. Not too sure how hard it sucks but don't want my skin sucked off. :-)

Carb is the stock carb. From what I remember reading about, there is a lead plug covering the mixture screw that people like to drill out and futz with the mix. This has been removed. I took the carb apart and all look very clean. I little air in it to make sure there was nothing clogging any thing and it seems fine. I cleared the small little venturi? hole where the mixscrew bottoms out right behind the butterfly in the back of the throat of the carb. I am not sure if the bike was rejetted and the only mod I think it has is HD Screamin' eagle II mufflers. Again not sure how to check if this is the original jet/needle and not sure how to check that it installed correctly.

One thing at a time - I will check the Manifold for leaks and report back this evening.

Didn't want to scare you! It wont suck your skin off. But is should have GOOD vacuum. The jets should have # on them. Follow the book instructions for carburetor ***. and you should be in good shape.

- Is the spark occuring at the right time? (Ignition timing)
- Do you see fuel squirt inside the carb when you turn the throttle (accelerator pump / fuel present in the float bowl / carb passages clear)?
- Is the fuel is fresh and clean?
- Are your cylinders / rings / valves / pistons operating propertly (compresson)

I would advise against sealing the carb off with plastic. The induction system isn't designed to tolerate that high vaccuum. You could mess-up sumthin.

-I'm assuing that the ignition timing is set correctly. The bike was running before I fussed with the gaskets and carb. Unless I really have to, I don't want to introduce another element to the situation. It might be the case but I've messed with enough and will leave this for last.

Yes. I am 100% positive I have enough fuel squirting into the carb. I replaced the accerator pump diaphram and the carb piston/diaphram with new.

- Is the fuel is fresh and clean?

Could be fresher, but I doubt that it would make one cylinder run lean.

Compression is 160# in each cyl.

I put my hand over the mouth of the manifold and sealed it off pretty good. During cranking, I hear a hss, hss, hss at each turnover. I may have found that I have a leak in the intake gasket again, which means I may have installed them inproperly. Could may well be. They were a pain in the ***.

One odd thing of note. My oil bag is still pressuring and I hear is slight hiss/leak around the filler plug. Is this normal?

How is the breather assembly hooked up? Is it possible that a insect made a home in it?

I seem to be missing something: I don't see the history that led you to the point you're at (an initial description of why you pulled the carb in the first place and what happened when you first put it back on.)

Also, you mentioned one cyl running lean? That's normal for these bikes, to a degree. The front cylinder runs cooler than the rear because it's in the wind, and the rear cyl is blocked by the front one. There's also something about the physical arrangement of the intake manifold feeding one forward cyl and one rearward cyl causing the front (I believe) to run leaner.
