Packing baffles
Hey,
I DID search.
The following is a fictional what if, but is asked in all seriousness.
Say you just installed a cool looking set of <insert your favorite name> true duals for your bagger with removeable baffles. They are absolutely the bomb (that's good). You could not hear them before you bought and while they are NICE AND LOUD they are maybe TOO LOUD, but still NICE.
How do you quiet them down a tad? The "right" muffler packing around the baffles? Good idea, bad idea, buy different pipes and - gulp - repeat, or back to the stockers?
Thx,
Pete

RE: Packing baffles
Pete, I don't see any problems with it unless you have already had it dynoed. If not then it will quieten it down and mellow the sound. My old mufflers were getting a bit loud, so I decided to repack them. I had removed the original packing when I discovered one of the baffles was broken. I had it rewelded, but didn't replace the packing before my dyno tune. I replaced the packing and my bike started to run different. I guess I increased the backpressure too much for the tune.
If you are running stock or with only the Harley download, you should be fine. You'll notice the difference more at highway speeds. It makes longer runs much more pleasant.
