Default Gas Mileage on 02 Fatboy

My 02 Fat Boy has Stage 1 and Python slip-ons. What kind of gas mileage should I expect from an 02 with these performance mods? My guess is in the 42-45 range assuming you do normal take offs and not hole shots. What are others getting? Would a dirty air cleaner have a significant effect? Haven't checked that yet.

My wife's bike turns out 50 MPG most of the time. About 90% of our riding is at 60MPH cruising the back roads. It's an 02' with stage 1 and rineharts.

Well, all it took was to run the bike a little to get the mileage up. The bike is an 02 and only had about 6500 miles on it. Basically I don't think the bike was run enough. So when I took it over and started putting regular mileage on it, the gas mileage improved dramatically. The first tank I measured was 36 mpg. The second tank was 40 mpg and the third tank was 44 mpg. Granted I was running it to give me good mileage (no WOT starts), but I wasn't babying it too much either. One thing that was interesting was when I was getting the lower mileage(36), I called around to several dealers and asked their service people if the 36 mpg was normal. Every one of them said Yeh, that's normal for a stage 1 with hi flow AC. I kept telling them that the forum talk was that everyone was getting 40-45 mpg. I don't think these guys really know what they are talking about, at least on this issue. It almost felt like some kind of conspiracy, that the factory answer is that mileage will go way down. I'm probably crazy on that last comment. Anyway I'm a happy camper now and the bike is running great.

Mileage on Harely's, or any motorcycle for that matter, varies greatly depending on your riding style, type of riding (stop and go/highway), your weight and the weight of your passanger, and accessories. When I ride solo and stay out of the throttle, I get between 45-49mpg highway. Around town solo, stop and go, I get between 38-42. Riding 2-up with gear on the highway, I get a pretty constant 40mpg. Riding 2-up stop and go, I get between 36-38mpg. Personally, I like hitting the throttle and making more frequent stops for gas. Not much on the top end, but the other day, I hit a standing quarter mile at 100mph with a passanger. She was screaming like crazy for 14 seconds (thrilled screams).

I like getting on the throttle as well. I just was dissappointed when I first got the bike because of the low mileage and I was running normal. I had always thought that Harley's were known for higher mileage and was bummed because of the lousy numbers I was getting. And not that it makes that much difference in cost over a riding season. Just an irritant more than anything else. Your numbers line up with my latest reading (45-49 highway) which was more highway than S&G.

not to bring up other bikes and victory in particular, but along with lousey polaris victory service, original 99 model with stage one got only 28-30 mph and i thought that it stunk mileage wise. other early victory's got about the same; my fatboy 04 carb with stage one gets around 42-44 not bad. runs great looks great.
