Not to rob ths thread but I am trying to understand the popping noise everyone talks about to understand if I have a problem or not. I have a stage 1 (fuel motto) with properly sealed mufflers.

I had a loud pop(sound like fuel igniting) that occured occasional on start-up and downshifting. Changed the map at zero throttle per fuel motto and that pop is gone.

But I noticed on downshifting I still get a noise that sounds more like a puffing with the normal rumblings. I was told this sound was normal doing with the piston movement.

Is that correct?
What you're hearing now on downshift, is engine braking. This is normal.

I have that too on my 103, the builder told me (after I took it back complaining) that it is the fuel injectors turning off at 2k rpms or less It is bugging the **** out of me when this happens. I am going to look for more info on this. It makes the bike sound like a pos backyard special. I also get a hesitation off idle which I never had on my 99 carbed bike, sometimes I almost drop the bike while banking left in a turn from a parked position and it decides to hesitate. Ill follow along here to watch for feedback.

I know when I looked at my PC111 map from fuel motto that at zero throttle and over 2000 rpm the cells reflect a -20% thru the rest of the rpm stages for the fuel injectors. This input is feed into the ECM. I do not know how the ECM is setup, but your mechanic may be on to something.

I do not get any hestiation....

Let us know if you find out anything more...

Warm up the bike to normal temp. Properly hook up the SERT to a laptop, open the data mode program, then record the data from the bike to the computer while you go make some test runsto get the pops, meaning downshifting through the gears like you normally do when they occur.Try to get it to pop while you're recording so then you can open the file up and see what's went on. The data program will show you the rpm's and vehicle speed, so you'll know at what point along the graph you were going through the decel process testing.
