Default Head porting, any recommends?

Want to get my heads ported, anybody have a preference who does this?

Also, I heard some places do the 'glass beading' around the ports? Is that wise?

Thanks in advance!

Well what are you looking for in a build? Are you just getting you heads ported or are you going big bore with cams as well? If so, have you chosen those components?

There are tons of head porters out there. I personally use Hillside Cycle. i have had great dealings and great results with their heads and build packages.

I would suggest calling a few and see where it takes you. Ask them some questions that you feel are important and stick to their recomendations. Many of them have been doing a long time and know what works and what doesn not...

As for the glass beading, some use it and some use other media to blast with, and some dont at all.

Hillside is a great place to use.

If you have a lower budget theres Bigboyz, if you have deep pockets theres R&R CNC ported stage IV.

I went with HQ they were in the middle $ wise, I feel I got my moneys worth and many smiles per hour!

There are at least 20 HDFers who have done Head-Quarters builds in the past year or so: 95, 98, 103, 107, 113, and 124--PhilM, Dalton, bigjohn1percenter, asuperheat, hotpursuit,lrk0, and on and on--all havebeen very pleased with the quality, service, and support.

You can price their stuff here:

However, you should know what kind of performance you want based on your riding style and budget as you do your research. Porting heads just to port heads probably is not going to give you an optimum outcome since displacement, compression, and cam choice all play a big part in how the heads will be set-up. For the best outcome you will want the components to work well together, rather than assemble a bunch of nice parts that won't necessarily work well together.

Bean is a great guy to deal with and will fill you in on all the knowledge you'll need.

Check out the website, then give him a call and let him know what you want to accomplish with your build............he'll take care of you.

As has been mentioned already, you really wanna be thinking "package" ~ not just heads.

I have used several porter on my own stuff over the years, including several setups from Head-Quaters. At this point, I have no reason to look any further.

Do your homework, up front because there is no turning back once the heads are worked on & try not to make any hasty decisions based on "price" alone.

Custom tailored engine combos are certainly the way.
You don't want an hp screamer set-up, in a bagger, but then on the flip side of the coin, a guy may very well want a bagger type combo in his Dyna.
You need to spend some time with the client to evaluate his wants/needs, then get a game plan togather.
That's how we approachit, as everyone is different.

Once a cam/head/tuning choice was decided on, I chose Henderson Performance over Bishop's Performance since the former was in the same city as I am and has an extensivecurriculum vitae in the SoCal area. But I wouldn't hesitate to call Bill at Bishop's if I was in the northern side of the USA.

Another vote for Bigboyz, just remember, higher dollars does not always mean higher performance, you will not find better value per dollar than BigBoyz heads, they do a FULL port job for an economical price and the quality is second to none.

I will throw in a plug for hdwrench (GMR). i had him do a set of budget heads ie cced, new kibblewhite valves, mild port work and a budget price of $275. I got very fast turn around and just had a chance to have it dynoed and with 26G's and 95inch made 100 ft/lbs torq and 87 hp. Cheap build but perfect for a cross country tourer.
