I did use Bob's recommedation for the B lifters, but the guys at AMS did not think it would be a good idea to go beyond .110 preload with their lifters, but also said they have noexperiencewith this combo. Haven't called Bob Wood yet.I mayhaveset of AMS lifters for sale.

Most lifters have an operating range of .000 to .180. Usually shooting for a preload somewhere in the middle is desirable, around .100. If you still get ticking, you can go tighter, or looser to try to find the "sweet spot" of the lifter which might be .120 or .080, give or take. To start at .150 of tighter is beyond what I have learned, but Bob is a pretty smart guy. Maybe the AMS lifters have a wider operating range?

Hey Scott....Here's a blurb from their website...

AMS went back to Johnson-Hylift's Chuck Hicks, the original
manufacturer / engineer of the earlier HD 18538-99 lifters, which
don't seem to be as noisy as those made by Delphi. Working with Chuck,
AMSmodified a Johnson-Hylift lifter,to accept a very precise check valve,
evolved from an A900 Ford Mustang lifter. Then we usedalarge plunger that
allows more oil reservoir volume, and a ball seat that fits much tighter,
yet has an oil feed groove to allow more upper rocker box oiling. Today, we offer an significantly improved lifter, with a much bigger internal oil reservoir that
will keep the lifter / pushrod from bleeding too much and bottoming out.
The bigger reservoir maintains a cushion of oil inside. The ball seat
ensures better top-end rocker oiling and better pushrod tip fit.... all of
which makes for a quieter lifter.

With all that said, i run the stock "b's" in my 117/TW9BG preset at about .140 and no problems here.
