Has anyone here used the K&N HD stock replacementair filter element? If so, how does it compare in performance to the SE stage one type K&N air filter element ? I like the idea of using the stock filter assembly, rather than the SE stage one unit.

I used the K&N 1499 Replacement in my 2008 Night Train because I like the stock filter cover and setup as well, I have had no problems at all. I like it.

 

You can cut more holes in the factory backing plate and increase the air flow to match the SE air cleaner.
"Caution" You may have to reMapp your ECM to match the increase in air flow or it will run lean.

 

I already have the SE stage one air cleaner assembly. I just never got used to the open rear air cleaner and I would rather put it back to stock with the K&N replacement element and sell the SE air cleaner assembly. Also, I went to stock HD CVO 110" kit muffllers. I am tired of loud exhaust and the new mufflers allow me to hear my sterio again. But, the SE air cleaner is now louder than the exhaust on acceleration. Go figure! I have the Cobra FI2000 unit. I like it, as I can make adjustments on the go.
