I have an 05 FLSTNI Softail Deluxe. I've heard that after some year HD made rocker box gaskets that did not leak. But I took the bike in for a new tire yesterday and they said I had a rocker box gasket leak. I looked, it's a few specks around the corner. I was just wondering if there is a life expectancy of a rocker box gasket, or is this not suppose to ever leak?? I have a little over 20,000 on the bike.

Good time to take the rockers off and replace the gaskets and replace the breather and umbrella valve gaskets. Also a good time to drill out the hole in the rocker support with a #43 drill bit for better oil return like the Doherty set up does.

It's still under warranty, I wonder if they would do that additional maintenance?

 

Doubt it, if you have a rocker box gasket leak then that is what they will replace under warranty. If you decided to do anything else while the rockers were off, then you'd save on some labor but they'd still charge for everything else done.

I'm taking it to the HDshop for the gasket because of warranty, but she's going to my mechanic next week for major service, so will have him do it...thanks again.
