Default Woods Cams. Define what "louder" means.

What does louder mean to people? More valve train noise? Clicking? Whirring? Like lifter tick?

Kinda torn between a Woods 6 and Andrews 54.

I have run the Woods TW5G, The TW6 and the TW400-6 (.650 lift).

The 5's were a 575 lift and I was able to get them adjusted to relatively quiet, the 6's had just a bit of noise (lifter tick) but were not bad at all, the 400-6, just plain noisy. Woods cams have fast ramps and between that and high lift, you can get lifter/ valve noise if you dont have good seat pressure, and good lifters that are adjusted just right. I am now running a HQ575 and the top end is the quietest of any builds I have done. I cannot speak to the Andrews 54 as i have not run it and don't have any buds that have run it either.

Have used a couple 6's now and all are quiet!. I have a 9bg going in the motor soon and i will report back on that soon.

A couple tips to set up.
Check backlash carefully(if going gear) and take the time to get proper over/undersized gears if needed.
If usuing adjustable p-rods, make sure the dont rub the tubes.
If using a larger spring pack in heads make sure they clear everything.
Baisley spring or zipper shim highly recomended!

I just put the Woods TW-6G's in my bike, and they are as quiet as stock. I pulled a set of HQ cams out to put these in, and now I realize just how noisey the HQ cams were. I was very surprised when I fired it up and it was dead silent, I had heard all the stories about the Woods cams being noisey.........good thing there were just stories. I believe the high-lift Woods cams are the ones were complaining about, the 6 is not a high lift cam and should be quiet.

We were Bob Woods largest account worldwidein 2004-2005.
What we know is that the pre-07 non-gear driven cams do make noise.(I would guess that was what all the complaints refered to.)
We check all areas of possible contact when doing an install, and set the pushrod .140-.150 into the lifter, kick the oil pressure up, and DO NOT use SYN III. We use Spectro fluids at our shop.
Works for us.
BTW, a good set of heads*, and the 6 cam you may not look for more.

k, just heat cycled and test rode the woods 9bg's.

Sorry to go against other internet "rumors", but these cam are not loud at all. I think i in fact hear the roller rockers more. Now, to be fair, i havent gotten the bike really hot yet, but 6 miles to test run.
All together, i am happy even with a fairinged bagger i have no worries.
