103 build falls short of expectations

RE: 103 build falls short of expectations
No mater how good cam choice and how good an exhaust is the heads are power decider. If heads flow really good they will run with bad cam choice, but its the whole package that counts when making power is goal. Can't realy comment on cam.Im not a fan of SE parts myself. If they where so good why not intall them to start with, remember the factory almost always errors on the safe side.Just my thoughts. As for heads any competent porter can pivk you up some power a real expert can find you bunch of power and keep it where you want it.
Ialso agree that 84 hp with 103 is below my expectations. My 95 make good amount more in both areas, but then I have lots of time in the heads and parts selection.

I have learned since the build that one of the downfalls is the smaller throttle body. One of the things that I was wondering was if it would be feasable to go to the 50mm one without doing the heads, and a cam change also(woods or zippers)? I guess that I didn't expect thatmuch of a differance between the two numbers.

You don't need a bigger throttle body for a 103' motor. There is no problem getting 105/105 with a 95' motor with the small two piece throttle body and your TB is much larger than that one. I have told you, like many others here, if you want more power it takes more air and that is controlledby the flow of the heads......bottom line!!!!!
I have a 103' package that gets 119/119 witha 48mm TB, I have another 103' milder package with 10.2 compression and a .510 lift cam that yeilds 105/115 but they all have head work to get to that point.
GoodLuck

Whats upDoc! how are you?
This what I am talking about these guys dump so much money into these motors when they can just buy a super charger do some head work and be done with it. and see 110 hp plus and the procharger looks great when you are sitting at bike night when everyone goes oh and ah!!!!!!!!!!

Buy the way Doc is right you do not need a bigger throttle body dont waste your money on that for that engine. You have some nice numbers if you want to spend some money do it in the heads........and re tune it.......

+1 on the no need for the larger TB. Ran a 50mm on my 103 but it did not make a difference, it is all in the tune, and in the heads. I am still running the 50mm on my 120 and so far see no need to go larger. For the cost of a throttle body and injectors, you can get some great head work done
