Default New build Woods TW7H valve noise?

Just completed my winter build, installed Woods TW7H cams 575 lift, with 96 inch motor and head work with manley bee hive hi lift springs, did the clay mock up with .160 clearence but it seem like the valve train noise is greater than the stock set up, is this normal?

Yes the 7 cam is agressive but believe me it's worth a little noise when you see the Tq this cam will deliver. I haven't used the Beehive spring kit with the woods cams yet so I can't say they won't work but if the springs are too weak the lifters will leave the cam at the nose and make tons of noise. I usually run 170 to 175 lbs seat pressure with these cams......but I know the beehive springsworks on a much different princapal with less seat pressures. If you have excessive noise in the cam chest I'd say the springs aren't doing their job, if it's quiet in the cam chest and noisy on top I'd say your very close to being a normal noise with the woods cam.

The Manley bee hive springs are rated for .600 lift, noise is coming from the top of the motor.

Mine makes some noise at the top. Like a busy sewing maching when it gets warmed up
Done the screwdriver check everywhere else. I use Woods springs for the 400 cam so if I want to go there later. The springs arebigger than stock so had to clearance the rocker boxes and top also. I even double checked by pulling the rocker boxes again. Everything is right. Nothing touching.
I am figuring the noise is normal for this cam and maybe the roller rockers, one extra moving part there. Roller tips?
Also use a windshield and since the noise seems to come from the front cylinder, that figures.

This cam is something though. I wanted torque and it delivers. Will pull clean in 6th gear from 45 MPH with a full roll-on. I don't really do that though, I wait at least till 50 MPH for that. Up a hill?, a little gas in 6th, no problem.

I ran the Woods TW400-6 in my 103 and the top end was noisy, but it is a .650 lift. The profiles that Woods use have fast ramps so if everything is not perfect, you will get top end noise. Did you clearance the rocker boxes? There is casting webs that must be clearanced for anything about .575 and up. There is also the possibility of rocker shaft end play that will cause some racket. I checked the stock boxes I have and the end play was from .014 to .018. You can shim them down to about .004 to .006 and eliminate some noise. There is also the possibility of the pushrods hitting the sides of the tubes, if the boxes are not aligned. Then there is always just the pushrods adjustment. All lifters have what I call a sweet-spot where they are quieter and this varies.

Must have been a lifter that needed to pump up because while setting a new map for the Thundermax and letting it idle waiting for the head temp to raise the noise went away and it's now only slightly louder that the stock motor. Thanks Spider
