Default Tear Down of 88 TC

I had my engine stripped down by the dealer for noise coming from the front head back in September of '07. They finally diagnosed the rear cam was spinning in the support plate; they repaired it and out the door I went...ran like CRAP for about 200 miles but never seemed to recover from whatever they did?

So I decided to do a 95 big bore and 203 cam myself. During the tear down process I found "O" rings installed on the inboard dowelsof both cylinder bases, they were smashed flat beyond recognition (not suppossed to be there).

Found cut "O" rings in the rocker box area of the rear head.

When I pulled the cam cover nose I found the timing was advanced and off by ONE toothe! Thats why my bike was so damn hard to start!

Three of my eight head bolts were loose.

When they installed the cam support plate they forgot the cam bearing retainer!

I went back to the service manager and let him know what substandard work was being done to customers bikes...of course he appologized but that was the end of that; oh yeah, he gave me my cam plate retainer, it was still in the mechanics tool box?

Needless to say I don't take my bike back to ADAMECS Harley Davidson of Orange Park or Jacksonville Florida any more!

You should ask them where they got there training. Most dealers get vhs tapes from HD and watch them and take a test online to get certified. My wife worked at one dealer for 3 years and she saw how they were trainind only2 of them were sent to HD for real factory training. So when you see that nice plate on the wall with all the names with little orange tags next to there name and say they were certified think twice about that really means........ Maybe I said to much LOL LOL>>>>> Again I am not saying all dealer do this............ But think about it first...............or ask them.............. How do I know this I seen most of the VHS tapes she would bring them home..... CAuse she had to do the same thing for area of work.............

That makes me want to trust the shops. Better to fix it yourself and leave out the middle man!

Don't go to Cheyenne HD (Maverick) either. Had my 1000 mile maintenance done there. Syn3 in all three was stated and repeated over and over again. Paid for it. At 1200 miles I couldn't stand the thought of motor oil in my tranny so drained it. Out came green gear lube!! Bought a service manual from Zanotti's and re-did the 1000 mile maintenance. Pumped dri-lube into the clutch cable and throttle cables for a while before any came out the bottom. Pumped half a tube of grease into the steering neck. Tightened the cylinder head engine mount bolts to spec (they were loose!).

Had saddle bag latch replaced under warranty. Key cylinder was upsidedown!!!

These guys won't adjust the air in my tires.

Not saying they used it,but Redline Lightweight Shockproof is a weird green color.

I had a very similar experience w/Four Rivers HD in Paducah Ky. Except the SM would never admit to leaving gasket material in my camchest & not pressing the gears all the way onto the camshafts. I do all my own work now...& for some of my buddies. I might phuk up one of these days, but at least it will never be from negligence.
