M&M EFI

M&M EFI
This may be a dumb question but here it goes. I have a 1996 Ultra with EFI. The problem is if I want to do any mods the computer has to be upgraded with a cost of about $1,000 or more. Becasuce of issues with the older M&M EFI, I was thinking about replacing the EFI with carbs. Has anyone ever done this.

RE: M&M EFI
There are two or three ways of doing it. The best way is a little more labor intensive but fully reversible.
You replace the engine management harness with a ignition harness from the same year bike, eliminate the TB with all the sensors attached to it and replace it with a manifold/carb/MAP sensor assembly. You need a ignition, if you use a DTT or late model HD ignition you cn eliminate the cam sensor.
I find it best just to disable the pump and associated lines/wiring/fuel lines and fabricate an adapter nipple for a petcock. There are various ways to do this, leaving the pump in or not and it varies a bit .
There's an adapter available from HD.

You could use take off parts to do this conversion, here's a parts list that will give you an idea of what's needed. There are also other parts needed to complete this type of operation .

Engine mount (with slot for choke) ……. 16315-99

Choke boot ……. 27582-88
Intake manifold ……. 27613-99
Manifold seals ……. 26995-86B
Seal ring (carb/manifold ……. 27002-89
Wiring harness ……. 32435-00
Manifold sensor (MAP) ……. 32316-99
Manifold sensor seal ……. 11291
Retaining clip ……. 38723-99
Retaining clip screw ……. 68042-99
If I were you, I would upgrade the ECM and do what you want to do with that mod. I've done this same thing on my 96 RK and it didn't cost what you indicate here. There's places like Zanotti's where you can get the ECM for 20% off also which would have to be programmed (flashed ) by a dealer
