Default Mufflers for SE Ultra

My new '06 SE Ultra will be here in a couple of months and I am trying to decide which slip-ons to put on her. I don't want the Harley touring mufflers as they are too quiet and I don't want something like the V&H Basics I currently have on my '04 Road King Classic as my wife says they are too loud. So maybe what I'm asking is what non-Harley slip-on would be the most quiet yet give me that good Harley sound. I'm also not sure what effect the 103" will have on the volume of the pipes versus an 88". Initially I will just install the slip-ons and will eventually do the air kit and a race tuner. Thanks for any advice.

Try RUSH slip-on mufflers. Sound decent. Good price. Baffles are like $40. Try one - not satisfied - sell it on EBAY - go to the next one - your loss = ~ $20.

Nice thing is you can easily change baffles from 1.75" (tame) to 2.00" (wife still says OK) to 2.25" (now we're talking) to 2.50" (what baffles???)

I've got the 2.00 - too tame for me - putting the 2.5" on in March.

Good Luck.

George,

Have you heard the stock pipes on a Screamin' Eagle Ultra. My dealer took me to the back room a couple weeks ago and started one for me so I could hear it. They really sound good. Nice deep sound but not too loud (but louder than any stock pipes I've ever heard). I would listen to them before I order anything.

Terry,

Thanks for the observation on the SE Ultra mufflers. I have not heard them. Can't wait for my Haze to arrive. Still 2-3 months out. I wasn't planning on changing anything until after I got the bike. I hope they do sound better than stock muff's on the 88's. It will save me a couple of bucks that I won't have after I pay for the SE. My '04 Road King Classic was really weak on sound with the stockers.

George
