Default SE 203 cams

Anybody out there have any information on wether SE 203 cams would be a good choice for a '01 Road King with an SE air filter and touring mufflers. The prom has been flashed, but no other engine mods have been done. Also will I need toreprogram the prom.
I'd like more low end torque.
Thanks, any info would be helpful.

I just took out my 203's in my 95" FLHT. Too lazy below 3000. Went with Andrews 21's (girly cams) comp set at 9.4-1 with ported heads. Andrews 26's are a better choice if you want the motor to rev out further. If you insist on SE cams, 204's may be a better choice.

The Head-Quarters 0034 cam is a goodall aroundcam.
Ive heard alot about the new Andrews 54 cam as well.

Andrews 26 is a good stand by cam, but Ive heard it dosent do well with mods, like higher compresion.

I just removed my SE 203 cams as well from my 2001 SE RG as I am changing to the new roller chains. I installed the Andrews 37N cams. I have not test rode the bike yet but the 203 cams worked fine for me and I hope to have as good or better performance with the 37N cams. Per my conversation with Andrews they said I will.

The SE203 were good cams for my from-day-one 1550 kit. They were bolt in and worked with the stock heads. That was that for about six years until I went to the gear-drive kit and head work. There's no turning back now...

the 203 cams have a narrow lobe seperation angle and usually cause detonation in anything but stock compression bikes, or require retarding ignition timing, resulting in a loss of power. if you're pretty sure you are done with motor mods, this would be a good pick, in my opinion

I ran them in my Road King back in 1998. The 203 were available before even the 95" big bore kit. I installed just the cams first. The bikesuffered everywhere in the RPM band. I really lost a lot of torque down low. But, installed with 95" big bore, they are respectable, good mileage/power cams. I would not run them alone.

The 203's are not a very good cam considering the alternatives. They havea spot in them where it almost feels like your being held back and let go. A soft spot if you will. The 204 is much better and it closes the intake sooner so you make torque sooner. I run the Andrews TW21's with 95" and head work and with the headwork they run out to redline, no problem. Over 100 ft. lbs. of torque down low where it's fun but then I ride a Geezer Glide with the barn door on the front so I need the torque!

Not to hijack, but I have a semi stage 1 '02 FLSTF. BigSucker, SE II pipes, rejetted carb, SE wires/plugs. I'm thinking about finishing up with a different set of cams to get a tad more torque. I've read about the Andrews TW37b's. With a cam mod, would I have to change pushrods as well? Or just pop these babies in and call it a day?

Naked Snowman, best to just start another thread when you have detailed questions like this as sometimes it gets confusing who is answering what questions.

Dimperio, the 203s will work but not the best choice. The Andrews 26 would be a good choice, better choices would be the HQ 0034, or Woods TW6.

The 203and 26have limitations on what you can do down the road as far as compression requirements. They are basically cams for stock engines and stock compression. The 0034 and TW6 will handle increased compression and displacement to a point so you can make future mods and retain those cams as long as you dont go beyond their CR limitations.
