60 miles per tank??
I have a 2006 1200R. I have about 220 miles on it and the bike has been a real blast. One problem though - I'm getting about 60 miles per *tank*. It's like clockwork - 60-61 miles and putt-splutt-stall. Empty. The first time it happened the bike had been filled up as part of the purchase at the dealer. I figured that it was a "fill up" in name only. But the subsequent times I've done it myself.
What the heck could be causing this?
Note that these are in-city miles between 35 and 50 mph. Most of the trips I take are between 10 and 20 miles at a time.

RE: 60 miles per tank??
Short trips with lower gears in the city, not getting much into the higher gears will knock the heck out of the gas mileage. It's most likely running lean if it's stock but the constant start and stop with the enricher and also the small tank size will return very poor miles per tankfull. There may be nothing at all wrong with the bike.

Is it truly empty? How much fuel do you put back in? Do you still have a reserve?
I had a '97 Sportster Sport that I bought new. Had a similar problem. At about 80-85 miles I'd have to switch to reserve. Turned out the petcock was the problem. The dealer fixed it under warrenty. They told me they just "adjusted" it. Not sure what that means.

HMMM
I am getting 35 mpg and I have steep gearing, and feeding two or you engines for fuel. I have seen the liner in the tanks peel right from the factory and end up pluggin the lower portion of the pickup. But you are stating the tank is empty. Also a under powered bike is going to get worse milage than one with more power, as you are throttling harder. I see this with the 88 to 98 swaps, Tripper here on the site is getting a increase of 5 mpg from the 88 to the 98 build. What is your tank size?? verse's what you are filling back up at. AS I have seen this with very small tanks but I ride with a few that have the small tank and they get 120 or so before we have to stop.
