Largest bore size for 88 TC motors
I have an extra set of 2006 heads and jugs, thinking of diamond cuts for the fins and street-port on the heads...a 95 big bore is on my horizon!
I want to keep the same stroke; what are my options for bore size...will 10.5:1 forged pistons cause reliability problems down the raod?

I put some Axtell cylinders on. They are 3.937 I think. From NRHS. Their pistons also (Forged flatop JE). 0.30 gasket. JIMS has some like that too and pistons. Theyboth have much thicker iron liners that are cast in and take an overbore better. Uses a 4.000 dia gasket. About as big as can be put into stock cases.
Would come out to about 96 or 97 cu. in. for you.
You can go 3.850 (0.10) overbore or so with stock cylinders. Maybe more.
Has to do with keeping the cylinders round and sealing the rings better. Can be a problem with big, air cooled cylinders. Thicker liners help.
I have about 10-1 compression and am glad I put in compression releases. Don't always need them maybe. Piece of mind and Summer coming on.

RE: Largest bore size for 88 TC motors
Thanks Guys...
I think Igot my answer; I visited an engine builder yesterday, he showed me a set of cylinders that had been bored to 95"...there isn't much cylinder wall left to hone away. I guess I'll stay with a 95 build andlookat cam / piston options; I'd like more roll-on power up to 3000rpm...need more torque on the lower endfor merging and passing while on the interstates.
This is a daily driver to work for me so keeping gas mileage above 35mpg is a concern as well.

I bore and fit 98" pistons to stock 88 cylinders at the rate of 2-3 a week and have not had any come back in the last year. The cylinders can be purchasd on ebay for 40 dollars a set and bored and fit for 480 so I guess my customers say "why pay more?" Axtell's makes a great cylinder and we use a lot of them, we use a lot of stock also. 3 cubes more is 3-4 horse more so no big deal.

If wonderment was as to the largest cylinder size that can be used on a T/C cylinder bolt pattern. The answer to that would be 4.250.
That cylinder size is not what we a comfortable with, but it is available.
We stay at the 4.125 bore size. In this case less is better, we feel.
